The Veronese side of Lake Garda offers plenty of surprises for cycling enthusiasts, with routes of all kinds to suit every taste: from loops through the morainic hills to slow rides along wine roads, from tough mountain bike trails to relaxing lakeside rides. For sure, the largest lake in Italy boasts several cycling paths that develop directly along its shores: think of the Mincio cycle path, the bike path between Malcesine and Brenzone, but also and especially “our” cycle-pedestrian trail connecting Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda. Here’s the route and the points of interest of this easy and certainly scenic trail!
The Lazise-Bardolino-Garda cycle-pedestrian trail
Let’s start with the northernmost section of the route: the Lazise-Bardolino-Garda pedestrian and cycling path is a bike trail truly suitable for everyone, as it’s entirely fat. This makes it ideal even for children on bikes, as well as for wheelchairs and strollers. The path stretches for about 9 kilometers, offering cyclists an 18-kilometer round trip starting from Lazise – or vice versa – while constantly coasting the beautiful Lake Garda.
The potential stopovers along the path bewteen Lazise and Garda
Thanks to its characteristics, the cycle-pedestrian path between Lazise, Bardolino and Garda stands as an unbeatable compromise for those who want to exercise, explore the area or embrace their inner foodie. The route takes you on a journey through Lazise, Cisano, Bardolino and Garda, with their charming historic centers featuring small shops, kiosks, bars and restaurants. From one village to another your gaze will wander over the lake’s waters and beaches, the reeds and the wildlife inhabiting these shores, such as seagulls, swans, ducks and mallards. Meanwhile, the various towns invite you to stop and enjoy their boutiques, castles, historical palaces, museums, traditional restaurants, and, why not, their wineries.
From Lazise to Peschiera by bike, to reach the Mincio cycle path
And what if, instead of heading north, you’d prefer to cycle south, to reach the point where Lake Garda “ends”? No problem: from Lazise, a cycle-pedestrian path starts and leads to the Venetian walls of Peschiera del Garda, which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List a few years ago. But that’s not all, because right from this town begins the famous Mincio cycle path (an integral part of the EuroVelo 7 Sun Route, running from Malta to the North Cape), which connects the southern shores of Lake Garda to the city of Mantua. The route, mostly flat, crosses fields of poppies and wheat, small villages, all along the Mincio River for about 50 kilometers.
Do you want to cycle – but not only cycle? Then the pedestrian and cycling path between Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda is perfect for you!
