A vacation on Lake Garda can also be dedicated to art and culture: there’s no lack of castles, museums, noble villas and historic centers of great interest. Let’s not forget that one of the world’s most envied art cities, the romantic Verona, is just a 30-minute drive from our vacation homes! Are you looking for destinations for cultural tours, perhaps accompanied by some shopping and food and wine stops? Here are some of the main places to visit during your stay in Pacengo di Lazise!
From villages to cities, exploring the Lake Garda area
Lazise: it’s impossible not to start from our Lazise, nestled between Lake Garda and the morainic hills cultivated with olive trees and vineyards. Famous among other things for being the first of the free Italian municipalities to gain autonomy from Emperor Otto II in 983, Lazise is ready to amaze you with its Scaliger Castle, the well-known Dogana Veneta (Venetian Customs House) and the picturesque Old Harbor, not to mention Lungolago Marconi, a real must for those who spend their vacations in this area.
Bardolino: north of Lazise, between Cisano and Garda, lies this fascinating village between the waters of the lake and Mount Baldo. Known for its good wine, Bardolino is worth a visit also to discover its small but interesting museums, primarily dedicated to the area’s food and wine production.
Peschiera del Garda: a town rich in history, with landmarks impossible to overlook: from the bastions and noble palaces to the Peschiera Fortress, an architectural treasure of the 16th century. Surrounded by the Mincio River, the historic center offers stunning views, as well as tempting small shops and restaurants.
Sirmione: situated between Veneto and Lombardy, Sirmione has been celebrated by the poet Catullus and is admired both in Italy and abroad for its artistic and cultural heritage as well as its famous thermal baths. From the Scaliger Castle to the ancient Roman villa of the Grottoes of Catullus, Sirmione is certainly not lacking in attractions. A must-add to your vacation itinerary!
Verona: moving away from the lake, but not too far, we reach Verona. This city needs no introduction: bear in mind that just 30 minutes away from our villas in Pacengo, you will find the Arena, Juliet’s House, Piazza Bra, Piazza delle Erbe and many other sites of great interest, all crossed by elegant shopping streets.
